There are a lot of social Networking Sites but very few are like Twitter. Twitter is a combination of Social Networking and Micro blogging. In short You can share with the whole world what you ate for dinner but you gotta do it in 140 characters or less.
While Initially it might sound like isn't that too short, the world has been sending SMS's for a long time now and they seem to be enough. You can send "tweets" from the web interface, text messages from your phone or using apps for your mobile.
The original project code name was twttr but then when they came across the word 'twitter' meaning - 'a short burst of inconsequential information' and 'chirps from birds', it struck as being perfect.
Since then Twitter has come a long way and has spread even beyond the confines of this planet!!
Twitter introduced Verified Accounts for celebrities to help people know that they are following original accounts. A simple search on twitter for your favorite celebrity can allow you to follow their life like never before.
